Junior Achievement
I volunteered for Junior Achievement again this year. This time I was in a different grade, school and state. The students I had were in a gifted and talented 1st grade. And were they smart! The 5 lessons are supposed to take you through the whole school day. I remember last year when we barely made it through all of them. This year we breezed through them in about 4 hours because they were too easy for the students, which the students liked to remind us as we were completing the activities. Not to say they didn’t have fun though.
Lots of them told us how much fun they were having. And while they were a handful, they did impress me. Two of the boys were reading Harry Potter, which meant they would go through the activities super fast so they could get back to their readings. Two of the girls said they don’t like toys because they prefer books. One of the boys was telling me how he wanted to be a detective, and I said “Like Sherlock Holmes?” and the girl behind him said “My dad reads me chapters in that book before bedtime!”. And lastly, our last activity for the day was acting out jobs on flash cards so they could earn money to buy needs and wants (the key words for the day), and the kids didn’t want to do the cards on the flash cards because they were too easy. So the kids picked out themselves to do such jobs as a veterinarian and archeologists…not the easiest to act out by yourself using no words…
Overall, another satisfying volunteering activity.
Acupuncture
I just had my first acupuncture treatment …let the healing begin!
It’s 103F outside and I’m the only freak driving with my windows down.
